Having reset the MCB my electric shower is now not heating the water fully, why?

The most likely reason why the unit is not heating the water fully is that a heating element has failed. The elements can be tested for continuity using a multi-meter. If open circuit a new heater assembly is needed.

Note: If an element has failed other parts within the unit may have been affected it is therefore important to check all the electrical circuits in the unit for signs of failure.

How do I clean my showerhead?

How to clean the showerhead can be found in the fitting instructions for the model of shower that you have.

In some cases the sprayplate can be removed from the showerhead using a key that was supplied with the shower. The sprayplate can then be soaked in a proprietary de-scaling fluid.

If the sprayhead does not have a removable sprayplate then the head can be left to soak in de-scaling fluid for an hour or so to remove the scale.

How do I clean the intake filter on my Body Dryer?

Make sure that dust or fluff does not accumulate on the inlet mesh, this could lead to overheating of the element. Use a vacuum cleaner at regular intervals to remove dust or fluff.

I am having difficulty in selecting a comfortable showering temperature with my mixer shower and pump, what should I check?

  • Check that the stored water is approximately 55 to 65°C. If it is not, then the thermostat on the hot water cylinder needs adjusting.

  • Check that the flow rate on fully cold is equal to the flow rate on fully hot. Using a bucket and stopwatch can check this. If the flow rates are not equal, then check for any blockages and/or air locks in the system.

I have an Satellites LP digital shower, it has worked fine for a few days and now after pressing the start button it keeps stopping after a few seconds. Is there anything I should check before arranging a service call?

Satellites digital showers provide thermostatic control of the showering temperature and if there is a loss of either the cold or hot supply the unit will switch off to prevent the delivery of uncomfortable hot or cold water. It will not be possible to resume showering until both hot and cold water supplies are restored.

Things to check:

  • Are filters blocked
  • Is there air in either the hot or cold supply pipes

My electric shower is indicating low pressure what should I check?

  • Check isolation valves are fully open

  • Check inlet filter is not blocked with debris

  • Check minimum required water pressure and flow is available at the inlet to the shower.

Top

My electric shower runs hot then cold (cycling), why?

  • The flow rate of water through the unit could be too low, causing the thermal cut-out to activate. Check there are no restrictions to the flow of water through the unit

  • There could be a possible sudden drop in water pressure, falling below the minimum required. This could be because water is being drawn off elsewhere in the house e.g. the washing machine, or a toilet flushing.

Top

My electric shower will not turn off the water what should I do?

  • Check that the front cover has been fitted correctly with no distortion to the backplate

  • On units fitted with a commissioning link, check that it has been removed during installation (see fitting instructions for further advice)

My new Body Dryer is switching itself off after four to five minutes use and I have to wait for the overheat LED indicator to extinguish before I can start using it again. Why is this happening?

It is most likely that after four to five minutes the room temperature has increased to a point where thermal cutouts (heat sensors) in the Body Dryer are being activated. If operating on the full heat setting then select the high blower setting. When the room temperature becomes noticeably hotter select the low heat setting, which should prevent activation of the heat sensors.

My power shower is quite noisy is there anything I should check?

  • Check that the unit is properly secured to the wall.

  • Check that the pipework to the unit is secured with brackets.

  • Check that blanking plugs have been inserted into the spare inlet fittings inside the unit.

The water flowing from my electric shower is cold/too cool, what can I check?

  • Is electricity turned on to the unit?

  • Check that the temperature control is set to the correct number for the time of year (you will need a higher number in the winter than in the summer)

  • Check that the power selector (if available) is set to 'High'

  • On units fitted with a 'Low Pressure' indicator, check to see if it has been activated. If it has, then it is advisable to check for blockages in the inlet filter and/or have your mains water pressure checked

  • On units not fitted with a 'Low Pressure' indicator, pressure could still be the problem, so it is advisable to have this checked prior to an engineer call-out

  • Check that the front cover has been fitted correctly with no distortion to the backplate.

The water temperature from my mixer is too cool, what should I check?

  • Check that the hot water temperature at basin taps is acceptable (this should be approximately 55 to 60°C). If it is not, then the thermostat on the hot water system (e.g. hot water cylinder or combination boiler) needs adjusting

  • HP models only - has the mixer shower been connected to mains water pressure (hot and cold) between 1 and 5 bar? If pressures are in excess of 5 bar, then it is advisable to have a pressure-reducing valve fitted

  • Check whether the showering temperature is acceptable by pressing the 'maximum temperature stop' override button (if fitted on the mixer) and increasing it to a higher setting? If it is then reset the 'maximum temperature stop' as per the fitting instructions

  • Check the hot water inlet for possible blockages

  • Low-pressure models only - check that the mixer valve has been correctly plumbed to gravity system hot and cold supplies and not the mains cold supply

Water from my electric shower is not getting hot enough, why?

Check the temperature control and power setting is on the correct setting for the time of year.

Check the temperature control (flow control valve) is regulating the flow of water through the unit, there should be a noticeable reduction in flow when turning towards the hotter settings.

Using an electrical test meter the following electrical components can be checked for continuity:

  • Heating elements

  • Micro-switches

  • Thermal cut-outs

  • If the unit is electronic then voltage tests have to be carried out on the PCB/s (printed circuit board/s) in the unit.

What is a PRD (pressure relief device)?

The PRD is a safety device designed to relieve abnormal pressure from within the heater assembly of an electric shower when a restriction occurs on the shower outlet i.e. blocked showerhead, collapsed shower hose. If activated it will be necessary to fit a new one

Top

When I turn on my electric shower water starts leaking out from the bottom of the unit, why?

If water is leaking from a clear plastic tube or small plastic elbow in the unit, then the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) has been activated. The most common reasons for the PRD to activate are that the showerhead has become blocked or there is a restriction in the shower hose. A replacement can be ordered from our online spare parts store or by calling 0870 067 3333

If the water is not leaking from the clear plastic tube, then isolate the electricity supply to the shower and call 0870 067 3333 for advice.

Why is the flow of water from my mixer shower poor when previously it was good?

  • Check that the sprayplate of the showerhead does not need de-scaling - if it does, then follow the procedure set out in the fitting instructions.

  • Check that filters are not blocked and check valves in the inlets are working correctly.

Top

Why is water constantly dripping from my showerhead?

Water continuously dripping from the showerhead when the unit is switched off indicates a mechanical fault inside the flow control valve or solenoid valve depending on the model of shower. These parts are non-serviceable and will need replacing

Top

Why will my mixer shower tower not turn off?

This is due to failure of the flow control valve cartridge.
